This was fantastic Wendy. I won’t be able to enjoy my walks without now thinking about the big picture, or the detailed revisions—depending on where I’m walking. Thanks for this. 👏
I'm a pantster, so I never know what's going to happen next. There is no path to veer from. That makes it totally fun. Revision is painstaking by comparison, though necessary. I'm jealous of people who love to revise because it takes the most time. I adore your metaphors Wendy, and this week's is especially apt! Beautiful writing, as usual!
Beautiful writing as usual, Wendy. I'm pretty sure I'd much rather deal with bears than ticks. And I do love the drafting part of writing a lot. Revision can be fun too, but often not as exciting as drafting. I love the photos of Tock, and am really am impressed with that mushroom, and that you hear barred owls! The Fisher I already was excited about. And you have kingfishers and osprey you see regularly? I miss my walks along our Guadalupe river where I saw things like that, even though it's an urban river. The homeless have taken it over and damaged the environment with so much garbage and feces I don't know if or when it will ever recover.
What a powerful metaphor for visioning and revisioning ! This is a piece I'll read again (and again) just to feel the expanse and then the mystery of our world and twin pursuit to realize a full story. Thanks!

And I hope that wherever you're walking is exactly where you want to be in your writing! Thanks, Kim.

So glad you get my metaphor, Carol - thanks for reading!
I love this piece. The hike metaphor for writing a story is on point. Now I’m very curious to read the novel!!
Oh, there are many novels. But none have been fortunate enough to be published yet!
Which is why your writing is so beautiful and polished! ❤️
You are too kind!

I'm with you on the bears over ticks! But revision is always my favorite part of the writing process.
Lovely metaphor! I hope you are liking the east coast.
Thanks! It has been a big change, but much of it is lovely.

I'm touched that you enjoyed it so much, Janet!
I read that piece, smiling, and realize you've not only gone walking outside, you are exploring inside too ...
Can't have one without the other!
