One of the worst days in many countries occurs with the annual switch from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time. We have to reset our clocks backwards an hour, and guess what that means? Hint: I’m not thinking that much about you right here. Besides, I know a lot of people relish that extra hour of sleep (excluding myself). No, I’m concerned about your dogs.
I’m glad to be living in Hawaii now, where the clock doesn’t change with DST. We’re always on ‘regular’ time. And DST makes internet life challenging when we’re 6 hours earlier than eastern. A reasonable 10:30am start for an online conference starts here at 4:30am! I just hope it’s recorded!
Honestly the eco-clock is way off in N.Fl and it's disconcerting. I try not to get too rattled by flowers blooming out of season, but....
Also, I don't know if it's a function of age, but I'm far more discombobulated by DST adjustments now that I'm over 50! Used to be a minor inconvenience in life, now I'm much more like out dogs, having to muscle through a week of confusion as my internal clock resets!!!
Now that's a problem I've never had with Tock! But he's so overeager by that point that it takes him more tries than usual to hit his "Eat" button accurately.
I am on a hiking trip at the moment. It's lovely, but I am oddly missing my routines at home! I'm excited to get back to them, and my writing routine. Your great story about Tock has me missing my big pup (who looks much like your last picture).
Aw, you have a Berner? That pup belongs to one of my agility students, and is such a wonderful dog! Enjoy your hike, and your routines will seem all the more special when you get back to them.
I must be a dog! It takes me a long while to get used to the change; I know it is impossible, but a 'few minutes a day' would probably be doable. My routines, my need for them, notwithstanding my late-in-life ADHD diagnosis is a glaring reminder twice a year that 'the dashboard clock in my vehicle is 'close to being right' - but in close examination, it's 1/2 hour off (one way for 6 months, then the other way for 6 months) ... it's a love/hate relationship with time and the ever illusive 'sound sleep.'

You are very lucky not to have to change times. A great reason to move to HI!

That's scary about FL. And I agree about how the difficulty of adjusting seems to increase with age!
This was wonderful. The routines of animals linked effortlessly to climate change. Our fur babies are quite sensitive to their environment and humans.
They sure keep a close eye on everything we do, don't they? Thanks for reading!
If I sleep in and feed Apollo an hour later than usual he thinks something is wrong and won’t eat.

As always, I love your writing, and I love how Tock demonstrates your points.
He is very cooperative, isn't he? Thanks for always reading my posts, Suzy!

I feel like a dog too, Mark. I couldn't agree with you more!
Your dog takes a week to adjust. I take a month! What's his secret?
Wouldn't it be great if we could dispense with Daylight Savings altogether? Thanks so much for reading & commenting, Nadia!
Now I don't feel so bad for fighting sleep starting at 7pm!
